Sketchcrawl 30 Results - Kenosha, WI

Sketchcrawl 30 in Kenosha started at 10 a.m. at the Kenosha Public Museum.

Above Rollin Jansky's "Terminus Ad Quem," 1974. Fiberglass and enamel.

In the upstairs gallery they have wonderful benches. I sat on one and drew another. I got a little caught up in the shadows being thrown by a partition off to the right, and the shadows of the bench legs.

Third drawing of the day was of a Gemsbok head hangin' on the wall. I wish I had eyelashes like this beasty.

We took a quick break for lunch at Char's Cafe—yum! Eat there if you get the chance...very tasty.

Went to the Civil War Museum for a bit more sketching, and I ran out of lead in my pencil! Doh! Out came the blue ballpoint. I like the way the  lady's hat and front end of the stove turned out. The fan and canon are teeeeerrrrrrrrrible...ah well, can't win 'em all.

Evening Sketch 1-12-11

My veeeeeerrrrry busy work day was drawing to a close, so I was on CNN.com seeing what had transpired in the world while my nose was being scraped to bits on the ol' grindstone. Came across a Bob Green opinion piece, and ended up sketching part of the accompanying photo (couldn't find a photo credit, so I'm guessing Bob took the photo too).

Must admit, I didn't read much of the piece because the title lead to me believe it was going to be a retread of other articles of it's finger wagging ilk. What can I say? At the end of a busy day, I am frazzled and a bit cynical, and to make matter worse, I judged an article by its title. I did read a few of the comments, however, and they were loaded with enough vitriol to completely negate the idea that "we've" been "drawn together" at all.

A very sad business all around.

Thanks for stopping by...hopefully the next post will be a little more cheerful, but I make no promises.

The Gaze

Those eyes...one look and I was hooked.

Almost every one of my sketches is from a photo reference, and you can see this one in the background. It was time to clean off the bookshelves a bit so the 2000 National Geographic magazines got sliced and diced...yeah, I know, I think they are worthy of saving too, but it just ain't happening in my house. I've set my limit at ten year's worth at one time.

This particular photo came from the February issue. If anyone is truly interested, I'll research the photographer's name (this will be a standing offer for future posts as well). Ha...a reason to comment!

Cutie Elephant

The quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson is, "A man is what he thinks about all day." I wonder if the same can be said about elephants. If so, this one is a real cutie.
